Roping lesson #1......

Arriving safely in Farmington, New Mexico this morning, and after all the B.S. of setting up... I had some time to play a bit. Since many of you haven't a clue to what is involved with this whole Team Roping thing.... well, this is your first lesson.

The images I've posted are the first step dealing with the cattle, called wrapping the horns.

Horn Wraps are used to protect the steers' ears during a roping, so they won't get torn off. During the wrapping process, the chute crew, "The Prairie Dogs," brings about 20-30 head into the chutes,(long skinny thing in the photos), then the crew, consisting of 5 or 6 guys, starts to wrap. When the guys finish the steers are let out of the chute to find its way to the end of the pen, called the stripping chute, (sorry, no photos).

I know this sounds REALLY interesting, LOL, but it makes for some fun images.

Have a great weekend....

p.s. I love the winking steer...this dude has plans for the weekend.
