Interesting morning

Good morning,

Thought I would share some photos from the morning. For the past few mornings we have had some really dense fog...great for photos. Today was no exception...the ponies were in a mood...the resident Whitetail deer "Daisy" brought her herd for breakfast, as usual.

Steph gave Daisy a pinch on the butt...that deer is something. The sunrise was unusual...just an overall peaceful morning...

Have a great weekend.

You just never know

Sorry it's been a few weeks since updating, I've been busy doing nothing. That's what this time of year is all about, eating, drinking and being merry...right?.

Well yesterday something, a very small something happened. Since Steph and I are so connected to the western lifestyle and hang out with cowboys (real working and only at heart) every time I get the opportunity to photograph these guys at play I jump on it. Yesterday some friends of ours had a "sorting" at their ranch, we were home, so I went...have camera will travel. The interesting thing about shooting the western lifestyle is all the intricate details, spurs, hats, ropes, weathered faces...it never gets old. The stories some of these guys have to tell are so freakin' hilarious that you just about pee your Wranglers.

I just noticed this spur on one of the guys yesterday and thought it was pretty funny. Most guys have a brand or their initials sometimes the occasional skull and crossbones, but not this guy, "I LOVE VAN HALEN."

There you have it, you just never know.

"Ruff" day for Joon.

The other day Ms. Joon a.k.a. "BoonJug" had to spend the day at the Vet. Seems that one of her dewclaws got infected and caused her to limp, so the Vet said "both have to go." (One on each leg) I couldn't resist taking a pic of her looking so pitiful and cute at the same time with her pink vet wrap on, looks like she has little pink boots.

These boots are not made for walking

Had a cool assignment tonight...Vision Lampasas is trying to beautify Downtown, so the art committee, which has some real characters on it, has planned to paint murals on historic buildings. They had a celebration for the first one completed tonight, The Boot Mural. It was quite an accomplishment.

Veterans Day visit

Yesterday was a good day in "big beautiful Lampasas." My aunt and uncle (Mike and Linda) have been in Dallas staying with my grandparents going to conferences working on their Home Builders ministry. They had a meeting here in Central Texas at Fort Hood and decided to bring Nanny and Papa along. Unfortunately they missed the Veterans Day ceremonies on the square here, but we had a great lunch and a nice time catching up with each other. A funny thing Papa said to me after I took a few photos of him in front of the flags and wreath..."You know there's only one problem, I wore an Air Force t-shirt and I wasn't IN the Air Force." I told him that was okay because he had his 101st Airborne cap on...he giggled.

Hope everyone thanked a Veteran yesterday...I did.

Veteran's Day warm-up

On the eve of Veteran's Day I thought I would post an image from a weekend assignment. Our local Boy Scouts of America Troops head out twice a year (Veterans and Memorial Day) to Oak Hill Cemetery here in town to place American Flags on the graves of fallen soldiers. I love covering this annual event because of the young kids that do this have a real sense of duty and honor, and they also have a good time looking at the dates on the grave markers. It's good to see kids that are that young care so much about the price the soldiers paid for the freedoms we all enjoy.

Take care and tell a Veteran Thanks.

A new adventure

Well kids, tonight I went on a whole new adventure. I had an assignment for the Killeen Daily Herald tonight. Fort Hood (20 some odd miles from here) had another deployment to Afghanistan. As long as we, Steph and I, have been here in Central Texas, you see soldiers here, there and everywhere, you get used to it. You see coverage of the war(s) on CNN, you get used to it. Tonight however, you actually talk to these guys, photograph them with wives, mothers, fathers, cousins, sisters and sometimes their own kids, and you think to yourself they may not be coming home. On the way home from the base I thought, "Wow, those guys are flying to Afghanistan tonight." Being there tonight really put a "face" with these wars. It kinda put it up close and personal.

Anyway, this couple just caught my attention, they seemed to each other that they were the only two people in the room, probably thinking about his return. I thought I would share it with you.

Happy Halloween!!!

BOOO!!!

It 's that time again...probably my 2nd most favorite time of , right behind Christmas. I was very disappointed tonight at our hometown football game...only five students dressed for the occasion. What boneheads!! Thank goodness for some Halloween festivities down the street from the stadium where I got some great photo ops. The one I'm posting pretty much says it all...no matter what your age.

I hope everyone had a GREAT Halloween and has an even better weekend!!

BOOGA,BOOGA.

The Wedding

I've been thinking all week of what to say about the wedding. (John and Robin) All I can say is AWESOME!!! It was such a mixture of intelligent, interesting and adventurous people it was one of the best times I have had in long time. It really made me realize how important family is. I can't wait to see everyone again. I decided not to put too many words with this post...just some photos I thought were cool.

Take Care...enjoy everyday you have and the people who are in your life, you never know when that time is done.

Big Kitty is watching

Today was a big doggie day. As we get closer to our trip to Georgia for John and Robin's big day, we have some loose ends that need tying. Since we won't be taking the dogs with us (thank goodness...I love those crazy guys but Mommy and Daddy need a breather) we will have to board them. I use the term boarding facility with a snicker, it's more like a resort. They get ice cream nightly, swim camp, indoor/outdoor runs, air conditioned living rooms, there's more I just can't remember what all they are going to be doing. In order for them to stay there they need to be current on their vaccines. They are except for one, Bordatella a.k.a "Kennel Cough." Unfortunately that vaccine goes up the nose. No one was very happy about that.

I couldn't resist taking a photo of the BIG KITTY staring at the hounds. It's very "1984." Hope everyone is well.

Delay of Game

WOW, what a weekend. Actually the weekend was pretty tame but Friday night was AWESOME!!! Friday's game was delayed until Saturday due to lightning. The storm didn't bring any rain, just a cool light show. Both teams were warming up on the field, drill teams and Bands were in place, spectators were in the grandstand, then KABOOM. The school principle, A.D. and superintendent announced for everyone to exit the stadium. The place was a ghost town. I think there were only about 15 people in the whole stadium. Stiewig(principle), Myers(super), and I were the only individuals on the field. What's funny about the shot of the goalpost is not 20 minutes before Clay, our sports editor, came down on the field to where I was and wanted to see the angle at which I was shooting and asked what I was thinking. I told him, "it would be so cool if I could get a shot of a bolt of lightning splitting the uprights." TA-DA. When it happened I captured about three frames leading up to the one posted. After I got the shot you would have thought I just won the lottery.

I was so happy about capturing those images I didn't even care about the blunder committed by our government on Friday. IDIOTS!!! Before you vote in a few weeks research the candidates and make sure you know who they are and what they stand for. We received a publication Free Market Voters' Guide. Very informative. They have a website, http://www.freevotersguide.org/ I'm not sure if it's nationwide but check it out. I was SHOCKED by some of the issues the publishers' wife of the paper I shoot for, who is running for a seat on the State Board of Education, stands for. And she calls herself a christian. It would be more appropriate to call herself a Nazi.

Enough for now, one thing though as the Market drops below 10,000, quit living on credit people!! If you can't pay cash for it YOU DON"T BUY IT!!! The Jones' will always have more than you.

Co-Pilot and Navigator

I have a small window of opportunity so I thought I would say hello from Abilene. Since we haven't been anywhere in a couple of weeks this photo seems fitting, I think Woody (the navigator) and Benny (co-pilot) would have left Steph and me behind if they could only drive.

I want to say Happy Birthday to my Nanny, she turned 29 on Thursday. :) Also CONGRATS to my cousin Dana and her husband Shaun on their new bundle of screaming, pooping, crying, non sleeping, puking mess. No really, I'm happy for you guys. I'm glad baby Lacey has all her fingers and toes.

Anyway, have a great weekend.

Keeping you up to date.

Just a couple of things to let you guys in on...

As some of you fellow gardeners know, Steph has been working on a fall garden for the past few months. A couple weekends ago she planted some Heirloom tomatoes for seeds she harvested herself. From what I hear this process takes a great deal of luck taking them from seeds to the plate, so far luck is definitely on her side. She has about 14 of these starter pots going, keep your fingers crossed. We'll keep you posted.

Yesterday the Dispatch Record was invaded by a Tiger Scout Troop, very entertaining. They were very interested in two things... One, the way we layout the paper on the computer and Two, the slide show I created. I told the boogers that I had the best job up there, no offense to our Owner/Publisher.

Not much else going on here, hope all is well with everyone.

I'm wrecked!!!

Greetings-

It has been a week and a half. This is for all of you who think I don't update this enough, welcome to my life...

First, I will start with leaving Cheyenne...we just barely got away, a cold front was on the way and actually pushed us to Denver where we stayed with my sis-in-law Blueberry and her boyfriend Mike. Very good time catching up with those two, good times. We pulled in the Loco Lobos Hacienda wed. morning and had about 36 hours to get the house ready for the in-laws on friday...whew...just in time. Good visit with the in-laws, ate way too much, but had a blast.

Not too much happened until 9-11, the local HEB grocery says THANKS annually to the local fire dept. by cooking breakfast and lunch for the firefighters and doing some general clean up...good job. Later that day the scanner went crazy with an alarm saying there was a rollover with the occupant trapped inside, YEEHAW I said , let's roll!! Of course no one was injured, turned out the seat belt saved the guys life...BUCKLE UP!! Our football team is HORRIBLE...I predict another 0-10 season, thank goodness I get paid to cover it (not nearly enough though). Last but not least, Hurricane Ike...we did not get any rain, a little wind but that was it. We did have some Houston evacuees in Lometa (16 miles west of here), they came to stay back in 2005 when Rita hit the coast, very nice people. I wish them all the best.

Well that is the past week and a half in a nutshell, I hope my aunt and uncle in Livingston Texas are doing well and have all their conveniences. I also hope that Brad's dad Nat in Conroe, his sis Terri and family in Houston are doing well, I'm thinking of you guys.

Happy B-day to our family's September birthdays, there's alot of them. Have a great week and live life to the max.

Good times, Good times.

Cheyenne again

Howdy-

I figure since we are here in Cheyenne it would be appropriate to start off with something like "Howdy," whatever. Today was good, it didn't rain, snow or sleet today like it has in years past. We actually finished early enough so that I could shoot some of the "roping lifestyle." Basically guys sitting on their horses waiting to rope. There was an add-on roping this afternoon which gave me that opportunity. This is the only shot I thought worthy to post.

We ate at the best place on earth, Sanford's Grub & Pub, freaking' awesome!!! After we walked the pups around the lake across the street, funny thing, as we were walking we spotted about 10-12 guys ranging in age from 10years to about 17 having some kind of light saber war. For all you Star Wars enthusiasts you know what that is. I wish I had a video camera, I think a couple of these guys had capes...gives new meaning to the term "Geek Squad." It was quite entertaining.

Well off to bed, long day tomorrow. Hope everyone has a restful Labor Day Weekend.

Ciao,

A different side of Cheyenne

Evening-

Today was great...got the tedious stuff out of the way early, then Steph and I ventured out to the local Botanical Gardens, located across the street from the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo grounds. I was very impressed...lots of very interesting plants, herbs and flowers...plus I got to spend some quality time with Steph. We start tomorrow, not looking forward to it, but it pays the bills. Enjoy the photos...I had to edit out alot. The entrance to the gardens had an arch made of horseshoes that were welded together...very cool.

Until tomorrow...adu.

Great Balls of Fire

Greetings from Kempner-

Well now that the Olympics are over finally I might get some sleep. I was thinking that thought last night anyway until the phone rang and the voice on the other end asking if I wouldn't mind shooting a fire...A FIRE...does a bear @#*! in the woods? No big thing, just a structure fire about two miles from Hacienda Del Loco Lobos. It's amazing how fire will level a manufactured home...I mean the "home" is basically wood and plastic, no wonder the thing melts.

We are off to Big Sky country tomorrow evening, Cheyenne Wyoming, for the holiday weekend. Hey speaking of the Olympics, how about the Women's soccer squad bringing home the Gold!!! Hey Selfy, what happened to the U.S. Guys?? Just curious, I hope you had an awesome experience.

Everything is good here, just working alot, the in-laws are coming for a visit on the 6th, should be a good time.

Take care everyone and we will talk to you soon....Good times, Good times.

A different kind of roadtrip.

Hello all-

I know it's been a few weeks since this has been updated, so here you go. Last Wednesday we set off to Hereford,Texas for the Spicer Gripp Memorial Roping...good times. Unlike any other road trip, this one was a tad bit different...let me explain.

Wednesday morning 7a.m....ready to go, all packed and doing the last walk through the house making sure everything was a go. Our eldest feline "Bratt" decided to have a MASSIVE seizure as we were walking out the door. Since she had an "episode" the night before and had been in declining health for the past several months, I had to make "the call" to end her life. We acquired her before Steph and I were married while I worked as a vet tech in Dallas, so we figured her age was about 17 years, damn good life for a cat. I think this cat was probably on her 15th life so I think the right decision was made, very, very sad. We will miss her.

9:30 a.m...we finally get on the road and head north, all is well considering, until we get to Hwy 183 and I-20 a town called Cisco. We make a left onto the frontage road and Steph discovered "Shit ,we have a flat!" Come to find out that we have a "flat" on the rear left tire on the trailer. I use the term flat sarcastically because as you can see not much of the tire was left. We eventually arrived in Hereford with about 30 minutes to spare, all ends well. Had a great weekend, ate and drank too much, but overall had a good time and got some great images.

Since the weekend is upon us, have a great one and be safe. Love to all.

15 days

HOLA!!

I was just thinking that it has been forever since this thing has been updated. We are back for about 15 days and can't figure out what the heck to do, I have an idea, NOTHING!!! That's not true, we rode yesterday morning, gave the ponies a bath, (Checker really , REALLY, likes his baths), and I've shot some assignments. Not too dull around here, just nothing that sounds all that exciting written down.

Okay, I'm bored. I'll add to this later when something happens.

My BAD!!!

I'm sorry to the Old Fart Society for not posting anything of the Big Bend trip. I have been sick for the past 3 days, had a less than perfect daily paper debut tonight, but I will get right to it. I can't figure out how to post SOOOO many photos of the trip, so this is the deal. I will say as little as possible, for the Old Farts sake (only one fart:~). Sorry Dad, oh by the way, Happy Fathers Day, he he he. The trip to Big Bend was a life-altering one. I think I could really get into the hiking and camping thing. I think the last time I went camping with Pop was when I was about 4 or 5years old, long time ago. It was a good time and I can't wait to do it again next year. Thanks Dad for letting me partake. Muchas gracias!! Viva Terlingua!!

One thing about the Hispanic guy looking in the coke bottle, his lively hood has stripped by the "good" republicans of this country. He lives in Boquillas, which was, like any border town, a lively tourist destination. Now it is NADA!!! His name is Victor, (the singing Mexican), and he and his nephew now have resorted to fishing for bait and selling art for money. Sad, very sad.
This is all I have time for now, but I promise "OLD FART SOCIETY" I will add more tomorrow. ADIOS!!

-Good times, Good times, ( enjoy the photos), more to come.
