"Ruff" day for Joon.

The other day Ms. Joon a.k.a. "BoonJug" had to spend the day at the Vet. Seems that one of her dewclaws got infected and caused her to limp, so the Vet said "both have to go." (One on each leg) I couldn't resist taking a pic of her looking so pitiful and cute at the same time with her pink vet wrap on, looks like she has little pink boots.

These boots are not made for walking

Had a cool assignment tonight...Vision Lampasas is trying to beautify Downtown, so the art committee, which has some real characters on it, has planned to paint murals on historic buildings. They had a celebration for the first one completed tonight, The Boot Mural. It was quite an accomplishment.

Veterans Day visit

Yesterday was a good day in "big beautiful Lampasas." My aunt and uncle (Mike and Linda) have been in Dallas staying with my grandparents going to conferences working on their Home Builders ministry. They had a meeting here in Central Texas at Fort Hood and decided to bring Nanny and Papa along. Unfortunately they missed the Veterans Day ceremonies on the square here, but we had a great lunch and a nice time catching up with each other. A funny thing Papa said to me after I took a few photos of him in front of the flags and wreath..."You know there's only one problem, I wore an Air Force t-shirt and I wasn't IN the Air Force." I told him that was okay because he had his 101st Airborne cap on...he giggled.

Hope everyone thanked a Veteran yesterday...I did.

Veteran's Day warm-up

On the eve of Veteran's Day I thought I would post an image from a weekend assignment. Our local Boy Scouts of America Troops head out twice a year (Veterans and Memorial Day) to Oak Hill Cemetery here in town to place American Flags on the graves of fallen soldiers. I love covering this annual event because of the young kids that do this have a real sense of duty and honor, and they also have a good time looking at the dates on the grave markers. It's good to see kids that are that young care so much about the price the soldiers paid for the freedoms we all enjoy.

Take care and tell a Veteran Thanks.

A new adventure

Well kids, tonight I went on a whole new adventure. I had an assignment for the Killeen Daily Herald tonight. Fort Hood (20 some odd miles from here) had another deployment to Afghanistan. As long as we, Steph and I, have been here in Central Texas, you see soldiers here, there and everywhere, you get used to it. You see coverage of the war(s) on CNN, you get used to it. Tonight however, you actually talk to these guys, photograph them with wives, mothers, fathers, cousins, sisters and sometimes their own kids, and you think to yourself they may not be coming home. On the way home from the base I thought, "Wow, those guys are flying to Afghanistan tonight." Being there tonight really put a "face" with these wars. It kinda put it up close and personal.

Anyway, this couple just caught my attention, they seemed to each other that they were the only two people in the room, probably thinking about his return. I thought I would share it with you.
